Four of the guys on Southey’s team at work have pregnant wives that are all due within a month of each other. Everyone got together and bought the babies lots of goodies. He’s only been working with these people for about a month so we didn’t really expect anything from them, but I’m so impressed with how thoughtful the gifts were. Seriously, look at that embroidered bag with Maverick’s name on it…too cute.
Now I’ve seen enough Toddlers and Tiaras to know that soft drinks and kids don’t mix, contrary to how many pagaents the kids win while hopped up on it. Nicole and I let Beau have his milk, juice, and water to drink. But we went to the flea market last week and he tasted his first Mr. Pibb, and not only did he love it, but he loved it so much it brought tears to his eyes as you can see.
And I can feel them in my butt. I guess that means he’s head down?
Being pregnant is weird.
This photo is from Mother’s Day last year. I remember waking up that day and thinking that Mother’s Day was the best holiday of the year. It felt so deserved. I had given birth to a healthy baby boy and taken care of him for months as his dad worked nights and while living 3,000 miles away from our families. I remember feeling so incredibly proud of myself and what I was able to do.
This year is a bit of the opposite. I’m feeling overwhelmed with everything related to motherhood and constantly finding myself questioning my abilities to care for a toddler and a newborn. It’s a horrible, all-consuming, doubt that comes whenever Beau buries his face in my legs in the middle of a tantrum or I have a strong kick from Maverick that stops me in my tracks. I can’t stop thinking, how am I supposed to do this? And today was Mother’s day but unlike last year, I feel like I don’t deserve a holiday at all.
33 weeks and 2 days!
Beau was born at 33 weeks and 1 day.
This is officially the most pregnant I’ve ever been.
Beau has a new best friend, and it’s our garden hose. He discovered it after a long afternoon of writing on the sidewalk with chalk. We went to wash it off, and then Beau went crazy, as you can see from this video.
32 weeks*
Weeks 28-32 have gone by fairly smoothly. I’m getting a bit more uncomfortable, and I’m definitely exhausted by the end of the day, but nothing major. Everything looked great at my doctor’s appointment/ultrasound last week - Mom and Baby are both measuring right on track. However, I managed to leave the appointment with a wicked cold complete with sore throat and a terrible cough that has definitely overstayed its welcome. I’ve been coughing all night long, so I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in about a week, and my back and upper “abs” are super sore from supporting my pregnant, coughing body.
Other than that, our lease is up May 31st, and we’re currently looking for a new place closer to Southey’s work since I’m going to be home with the boys. If all goes as planned we’ll be moving at 35 weeks pregnant. Between the cold, moving, wrapping up things at my job, and the pregnancy, I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed. There have been more than a few nights of ugly cries, and right now I’m just hoping Mav can hold out until his due date so we can get everything settled.
*By the time I post these monthly updates, I’m usually a week further along in pregnancy than the actual picture because I’m too superstitious to take photos before I actually reach each weekly milestone. For example, in this photo I’m 32 weeks and 3 days pregnant, but in real life I’m exactly 33 weeks.
